Chief of Staff, S&T Strategic Planning and Partnerships, NETL
Dr. Kirk Gerdes served as a federal researcher and leader in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) at NETL from 2006 to 2015. In 2015, Dr. Gerdes transitioned to management roles as Chief of Staff to the Director, Senior Technical Adviser to the Director and acting Associate Director for Materials Engineering and Manufacturing. Dr. Gerdes currently serves as Chief of Staff for NETL’s Chief Technology Officer and supports technical and strategic planning through NETL’s Annual Lab Plan, the S&T Integration and Implementation initiative, the NETL Strategic Plan and the Fossil Energy Grand Challenges project, among others. He currently leads NETL’s Regional Workforce Initiative.
Dr. Gerdes earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemical Engineering in 2001 from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston in 2006.
